A History of Service
The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington has been providing vital programs and services for local adults, children and families for more than 150 years. Along the way, we have seen unprecedented growth and change in the communities we serve. The YMCA's roots in the Washington metropolitan region are deep, and the impact of the organization continues to grow each year.
Our Mission
The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington fosters the spiritual, mental and physical development of individuals, families and communities according to the ideals of inclusiveness, equality and mutual respect for all.
Our Impact
The YMCA is one of the largest social service agencies in Washington D.C., suburban Maryland and northern Virginia. Last year, we touched the lives of 265,000 people through our 17 branches and program centers.
Our Core Services
In our four core services areas aquatics, child care, camp, and health and wellness the YMCA offers unparalleled programs and services. All of our programs promote our core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Our Scholarships
The YMCA is committed to turning no one away due to their inability to pay. With the help of generous donors, community partners and giving members, the YMCA provided $2,049,290 in scholarships to more than 12,000 children, adults and families last year.
Our Volunteers
Nearly 3,000 volunteers give their time and talent every year to help the YMCA accomplish its mission. From dedicated board members to talented program volunteers, these caring friends and neighbors help the YMCA serve more individuals and impact more communities every year.
YMCA Fundraising Events
First Ladies Luncheon
The YMCA honors women who are firsts in their fields with an inspirational luncheon that raises vital funds for YMCA branches in D.C. Past honorees have included spiritual leader, Iyanla Vanzant; veteran journalist, Renee Poissant; and Executive Chef and Restaurant Owner, Nora Pouillon.
Golf Tournaments
Hit the greens and improve your golf game, all while advancing the mission of the largest social services provider in the region. The YMCA hosts three golf tournament fundraisers every year, including one for YMCA Camp Letts, YMCA Loudoun County, and YMCA Silver Spring and YMCA Youth & Family Services.
Loudoun 10K/20K Race
Join 1,500 runners from throughout Loudoun County as they race towards good health and run for a good cause.
Reston Gala
Each year, YMCA Fairfax County Reston is transformed into a lively ballroom, as local celebrities, political and business leaders, and community residents come together for a festive evening of food, fun and music.
Turkey Chases
The YMCA Turkey Chases have become a family tradition and are two of the largest fundraiser races in the region. In Bethesda-Chevy Chase, some 7,000 runners come out on Thanksgiving Day to run for a good cause. Other runners prefer the wooded, scenic run that YMCA Camp Letts offers.
